About Kate

Kate Kirkham, MSAOM, L.AcAcupuncture and Therapeutic Massage

After receiving my Master’s degree from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM), I started my home-based practice in March 2006. My interest in acupuncture emerged after moving to Seattle in 1996, where I met mentors in the field of natural medicine. After moving to Portland, I narrowed my focus to Chinese medicine.  OCOM, one of the most highly ranked acupuncture programs in the nation, was a natural choice for me to pursue my Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. The acupuncture college’s one-year clinical internship helped me refine my gentle touch, and I proudly specialize in “needle-sensitive” patients.

Because of my gentle approach, I love working with those new to, or nervous about, acupuncture. Along with acupuncture, treatments often include massage, cupping therapy, moxabustion (a type of heat therapy), nutritional counseling, herbal and nutritional supplements, and for some patients I even provide “needle-free” treatments. For the last five years, I’ve also seen patients at two local retirement homes, Holladay Park Plaza, in the Lloyd District and at Mirabella in South Waterfront.  Both Continuing Care Retirement Facilities are managed by the not-for-profit Pacific Retirement Services, and are two of Portland’s premier continuing care retirement facilities.   I treat residents there for a variety of health conditions and I am certified as an Elder Friendly practitioner through the non-profit Elders in Action.
